Graham on Fowler

Just got off a McCain campaign conference about South Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler’s statement that Sarah Palin’s “primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”  On the call, Fowler’s fellow South Carolinian Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of John McCain’s closest associates, called on Barack Obama to publicly reject Fowler’s comments.  “I think that would be incumbent upon him as the leader of his party,” Graham said, calling Fowler’s statement “completely out of bounds.”  Continuing, Graham said, “I know Carol and Don Fowler fairly well, and I’m quite frankly shocked and surprised that she would say such a thing.  Very uncharacteristic…I think it has more to do with the fact that our Democratic colleagues and opponents are in a meltdown mode over Gov. Palin…A threat exists that they did not see before.”
