The Greatest

Impromptus today is the usual mélange: a little DJT, a little HRC, a little music, a little language. In the course of this column, I say that there is really nothing left to know about either of the major-party nominees. And I quote a song: “If you don’t know me by now, you will never never never know me.”

A faithful reader has written to say, “Thank you. Thank you for quoting the Greatest Song Ever Sung (pop-wise).”

I wish to ask readers: What do you consider the greatest pop song ever sung (and we can define “pop” very broadly)? If you’d like, e-mail me at jnordlinger@nationalreview.com. I’m no George Gallup — but I will gladly compile the answers.

And to hear Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes — “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” — go here.
