Grimes Won’t Say Whether She Would Have Voted for Obamacare

Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democratic challenger to Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, refuses to say whether she would have voted for Obamacare. Asked the question twice directly by the Associated Press on Wednesday, she dodged it both times.

“I, when we are in the United States Senate, will work to fix the Affordable Care Act,” she told the AP, adding: “I believe the politically motivated response you continue to see from Mitch McConnell in terms of repeal, root and branch, is not in reality or keeping . . . with what the facts are here in Kentucky.”

The law remains unpopular in Kentucky, with a recent NBC/Marist poll finding that 57 percent of registered voters view it unfavorably (though more voters than not said they had a favorable view of the state’s exchange, Kynect).

Earlier this week Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn also danced around the question of whether she would have voted for the law at the time that it was passed. “I think it’s impossible to look back retrospectively and say what would you have done while you were there,” she said in an interview with MSNBC.
