The Corner

Grrrrrrrr

That truly is an impressive video and I’m hard-pressed to come up with anything that can compete with it. David French has ruined my day (though it’s not as bad as this guy’s or this guy’s. ). I am deeply depressed and feel the need to update my resume Derb-style, though I’m not sufficiently bummed to study up on how to destroy the planet or multiply roman numerals. But if I did destroy the planet, I’d never end up on the list of people who died on the can. Still I might spend the rest of the day watching uplifting videos of nuclear fireballs or videotaping myself eating a diet solely of monkey chow. But that’s already been done. Or I could quit this game entirely and commit myself to my real dream of growing a champion beard and making wallets out of children’s theme underwear. Alas, some inventions aren’t worth the effort. If I did grow the beard it couldn’t be too long because it might get clogged up in my new urban combat skateboard. Or I could wander the earth like Kane in search of better links in my amphibious luxury RV, which would be more efficient than riding a wood motorcycle . In my travels I would see many marvelous things, like Stonefridge, giant bugs, prom dress rugby, carnivorus toilet lizards , or an animal society where deer don’t heed Stanly Kurtz’s warnings. Of course, it’s very hard to predict the future. And, besides, I would miss my family. How would I explain to my daughter why I was gone? Some questions from kids are so hard to answer as it is. And I’m already afraid of little girls, after knowing what they want to do to Barbie. Anyway, I am in awe of French’s find, but he will have to prove that he wasn’t just lucky. Over time, I hope, quality and quantity matter. Only when French scores on both fronts will he be ready to be immortablized in heroic art.

‘Anonymous’ Falls Flat

Vote Your Conscience

At the 2016 Republican convention, Senator Ted Cruz spoke a controversial phrase: “vote your conscience.” I think about this phrase, this idea, fairly often. I’m not one to give advice on voting (or much else). But when asked for advice, I usually say, “Vote your conscience.” Sweet conscience! One of ... Read More
