Gunfire in Baghdad

The latest security notice from the US Embassy in Baghdad: Just a reminder that, despite all the navel-gazing in Washington, life does go on in Iraq.

Possible Celebratory Fire Tonight

TO: All Personnel

FROM: RSO – Randall D. Bennett

Please be advised that Iraq is playing in the Men’s Quarterfinals Football (Soccer) match tonight at 1900 hrs. As in the past, there is a high chance that weapons will be fired into the air as celebration if they win. If possible, please limit your outdoor activities during this period, and stay aware of available overhead cover if you must be out. Recently an individual was wounded in the leg on this compound by celebratory or stray small arms fire. Any questions regarding this matter should be directed to ARSO Michael Ross: 914-***-***.

Drafted: MJRoss
