Hagel’s Quiet Campaign for a Cabinet Post

Former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel has stayed under the radar in recent years, making news briefly in 2010 when he endorsed Democrat Joe Sestak in his senate race against Pat Toomey, and last month when he backed Democrat Bob Kerrey against (now senator-elect) Republican Deb Fischer.

Over on the home page, I write about how Hagel has gradually allied himself with President Obama and put himself in position for a plum appointment — he is reportedly being vetted for a cabinet post, and he’s on the short list to replace Leon Panetta at the Defense Department.
