Haley Stevens faces intense backlash from her own party after endorsing Republican Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers over Abdul El-Sayed yesterday. On today’s Election Edition of The Editors, Rich asks Noah what he makes of it.
“They’ve accused her of being ensorceled by her conspicuously Jewish fiancé, who has bedazzled her into taking a position she otherwise wouldn’t,” explains Noah. “It’s totally possible that she didn’t want to get to this place and felt compelled to do so at this last minute.
“It’s Haley Stevens and many, many Jewish Democrats, or those with proximity to Jewish Democrats, who long ago made this move. . . . Jewish Democrats in Michigan have admirably given their constituents all the permission they need to vote against this guy. Haley Stevens is just the latest defection.
“You can’t blame Haley Stevens for failing to keep the coalition together. It was not her job to do that. El-Sayed engaged in a game of subtraction. . . . Politics is a game of addition. He wanted to win with subtraction. It’s a grand experiment — we’re gonna see how it ends tomorrow night.”
