Hand A Sharp Argument to Andrew Sullivan

and he’s likely to leave himself bloody.

In his latest effort, I am once again labeled a “Christianist.” Sullivan says that he himself isn’t a Christianist when it comes to torture because, while his convictions are rooted in his Catholicism, “my arguments on this matter have very, very rarely depended on my resort to this religious argument.” Well, that’s terrific. But the same is true of my arguments on abortion, embryo-destructive research, and euthanasia. But for some reason my policy positions are beyond the pale as a violation of the separation of church and state, and his aren’t. Sullivan’s real religion is special pleading.
