Ehhhhh okay. Let’s be charitable and assume that’s what Hank Johnson meant. That would still mean it was a very bad delivery of a metaphor. If you watch the video, he talks about the island tipping over and ”capsizing” and his hand gestures, combined with his talk about the physical size and shape of the island, sure doesn’t convey a “tipping point” argument. It conveys a more literal “capsize point.” But since the alternative is too terrible to contemplate, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt.
Update: From a reader:
As a diehard liberal, I say you’re being way too easy on him. He was speaking literally. That was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. Perhaps next he’ll claim it was an April Fool’s joke,
Update II: This reader makes a good point:
Oh, no benefit of the doubt for Representative Johnson as he is the same clown that in response to Joe Wilson’s “you lie” comment said that if it goes unpunished “We will have people with white hoods running through the countryside again.” He was a boneheaded fool then and he is the same boneheaded fool today.
