Hatch on O’Donnell

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) says Democrats and members of the press are going “overboard” in their criticism of Christine O’Donnell, Delaware’s GOP Senate nominee. Hatch tells reporters that O’Donnell (who told Bill Maher in 1999 that she once “dabbled into witchcraft”) is being subjected to “ridiculous” questions about “something said eleven years ago” about her time in high school and college. “That just shows how far some people will go to try and smear somebody.”

“I think women have got to start getting mad about the way they’re treating her,” Hatch says. “It’s been pretty darn rude and vicious, I’ll tell you. There are some legitimate questions that can naturally come up, but to bring up an eleven-year-old quote? Give me a break.”
