Hawaii Health Connector has enrolled less than one-tenth of the individual policies it needs in the current fiscal year in order to be sustainable, officials said yesterday at a legislative briefing.
The state-run exchange has enrolled 683 people as of December 9. However, the exchange needs 10,000 individual enrollments – and 40,000 small-business enrollments – in order to be sustainable by 2015, when funds from the federal government will cease.
According to Tom Matsuda, the exchange’s interim executive director, the Hawaii Health Connector also needs 39,000 individuals and 94,000 small businesses to enroll next fiscal year, which begins on July 1, 2014.
