It is perfectly reasonable to suggest that we have to control health-care costs in order to get the budget into long-term balance. It is hard to see how the administration’s spending plans bear any relation to that goal. Obama seems more interested in expanding access to insurance than in controlling costs, and it seems as though the political pressures on the administration and the Congress are mostly going to push against cost control too.
