A reader responds to my scathing comments on art:
You couldn’t be more right about the fraud that is modern art. I never thought about its relationship to photography, but you’re right. I think everyone instinctively knows this, which is why one of the great insults is “You’re so ugly, you could be a modern art masterpiece.”
Incidentally, I always felt the same way about gourmet food. I once sat in a Paris restaurant scooping marrow out of a femur bone and covering it with driveway salt. Give me a burger on the grill any day.
