The two former secretaries of state have an op-ed on the topic in tomorrow’s Wall Street Journal. The piece raises concerns about what the agreement actually entails — whether White House representations have been misleading or the details simply haven’t been agreed upon — which seem to be among the bigger doubts diplomatic and arms-control expperts have had. Shultz and Kissinger don’t absolutely hate the deal, but they have problems with almost every aspect of its design and implementation — and with President Obama’s underlying theory about Iran, that engaging it as a partner in the Middle East can go a long way toward pacifying the region and reducing American involvement there. The secretaries definitely don’t see that happening.
