Henry Kissinger on the War

One of the most formidable intellects in the nation for more than half a century, Henry Kissinger appears this week on Uncommon Knowledge.

In today’s segment of the interview, Iraq.  I began by quoting an interview Dr. Kissinger gave eariler this year to the German magazine, Der Spiegel.  “The issue is, Are American forces withdrawn as part of a political settlement?  Or are they withdrawn because America is exhausted by the war?”

“Dr. Kissinger,” I said, “America is exhausted by the war—every poll says as much—but a political settlement in Iraq remains, at the very best, elusive.  What should the United States do?”

Before replying, you’ll see, the former Secretary of State does something very unusual for television.  He thinks.
