The London Times: “The spectre of Wembley looms over plans for the 2012 London [Olympic] Games after Lord Coe disclosed yesterday that the original £280-million budget for the Olympic stadium has been abandoned. Tenders are due to be invited from companies to design a unique stadium that will have its capacity cut from 80,000 to 25,000 as soon as the Games are over. But Coe admitted that the complexity of such an arena required innovative thinking that could not be constrained by cost. “

Those are not words likely to fill the hearts of taxpayers with joy…
