Heritage Action Chief: We Can’t Repeal Obamacare Until at Least 2017

Michael Needham, CEO of Heritage Action for America, one of the key groups leading the opposition to Obamacare, acknowledged that the law will survive until the GOP takes back the Senate and the White House, and he argued in the meantime Republicans have to chip away at the law’s various provision through smaller defunding and delay efforts.

“Everybody understands that we’re not going to be able to repeal this law until 2017, and that we have to win the Senate and win the White House,” Needham said on Fox News on Wednesday morning. “I think that the question that the House has been asking is ‘Why can’t we have a defund of this bill for a year? Why can’t we delay the bill for a year?’”

Heritage Action was one of the original supporters of Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee’s strategy to refuse to pass any government-funding measure that didn’t also defund Obamacare, organizing a series of rallies across the country in support of the plan. It’s remained a key voice throughout the shutdown and debt-limit battle, and urged Republican House lawmakers to oppose the bill House leadership introduced yesterday, which was ultimately never brought for a vote.
