High School Textbook Edits Second Amendment

A high school Advanced Placement textbook is offering its own interpretation of the Second Amendment that significantly alters the meaning of the original amendment.

“The people have a right to keep and bears arms in a state militia,” reads the United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination’s interpretation of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment actually reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The Texas school district where the interpretation was discovered claims other textbooks accurately present the Second Amendment, and that United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination is a supplemental text. Other schools throughout the country also appear to be using the textbook.
