Hilary Clinton Has a Darned Good Argument

As I write, there is a map on the front page of the New York Times online. Entitled “Where They Won,” the map shows that, whereas Sen. Clinton defeated Sen. Obama in one reliably Democratic state after another, including such electoral-vote prizes as New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and California, Sen. Obama defeated her in only three reliably Democratic states: his home state of Illinois, Washington, and Vermont.

Sen. Obama, in other words, clinched the Democratic nomination by defeating Hilary Clinton in states Sen. McCain is certain (South Carolina, Georgia) or likely (Texas) to carry.

Gee. I almost feel Bill Clinton’s pain.
