Attorney General Eric Holder called Representative Darrell Issa’s conduct “unacceptable” and “shameful” during questioning about labor-secretary nominee Tom Perez at today’s House Judiciary Committee hearing.
Issa asked Holder why the Department of Justice had failed to turn over all 1,200 private e-mails from Perez that had been requested in a bipartisan subpoena. Issa believes the e-mails show Perez using his private account to conduct DOJ business. “I’m sure there must have been a good reason why only the two and from parts were released,” said Holder.
“Yeah, you didn’t want us to see the details,” the California Republican replied, prompting an agitated Holder to respond, “That is inappropriate and is too consistent with the way in which you conduct yourself as a member of Congress. It’s unacceptable, and it’s shameful.”
Holder and Issa have a strained history, as Issa heads the House Oversight Committee that first moved to hold Holder in contempt regarding Fast and Furious, a gun-running program that put guns in the hands of Mexican cartels.
