Holder Contempt Vote to Be Held This Afternoon

Just in case there wasn’t enough going on in Washington, the House will vote this afternoon on whether to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Committee in regards to Operation Fast and Furious.

Opinions on Holder seem to break mostly along party lines, though Representative Adam Schiff (D., Calif.) told the Washington Post that “a couple dozen” members of his party could support the motion. Many believe the NRA’s support of the contempt charges could have a role in these Democrats’ defection.

Holder isn’t without allies, though. The Hill reports that the Congressional Black Caucus’s members will stage a walkout during the vote and have a press conference on the steps of the Capitol. The embattled attorney general has another friend in the Reverend Al Sharpton, who suggested that the GOP was actually going after Holder for his opposition to voter-ID laws rather than his potential role in the failed gun-running operation that left one American border patrol agent dead and upwards of 150 Mexicans dead or wounded.
