Calling the shooter of two Ferguson, Missouri police officers during Wednesday night’s protest a “damn punk,” Attorney General Eric Holder said the “disgusting, cowardly” attack may have been designed to unravel the racial progress made since the shooting of Michael Brown last summer.
“What happened last night was a pure ambush,” he said. “What happened last night was a pure ambush. This was not someone trying to bring healing to Ferguson. This was a damn punk — a punk — who was trying to sow discord in an area that is trying to get its act together, and trying to bring together a community that has been fractured for too long.”
“This really disgusting and cowardly attack might’ve been intended to unravel any sense of progress that exists,” he added, “but I hope — I hope — that that does not happen.”
One officer was shot in the face, and another in shoulder, as they supervised protests outside of the Ferguson police department following the resignation of police chief Tom Jackson on Wednesday night. The shooter remains at-large.
