Of course, what Scott Walker thinks of Obama’s faith is a stupid and pointless question, but if you’re Walker, you have to 1) know the media firestorm that will ensure if you punt; 2) stick by your guns if you aren’t going to answer these sort of questions on principle (instead, a Walker spokeswoman immediately said that Walker thinks the president is a Christian — so what was the point of his non-answer?). For Walker, the fact that his views on national issues are highly unformed is more important than the kerfuffle of the last few days, and creates the possibility he could stumble on matters of more significance. On immigration, it sounds like he’s headed in the right direction.
