House of Cards Star: ‘Our Story Lines Are Not That Crazy’

If you stopped binge-watching Season 2 of House of Cards long enough to turn on the Sunday shows this morning, you might have caught series star Kevin Spacey making a case for the show’s often-astonishing plot twists.

“We can get done shooting on a day and I’ll come home and turn on the news and I’ll think, you know, our story lines are not that crazy,” Spacey told host George Stephanopoulos. ”They’re really not.”

Stephanopoulos suggested that the president probably wishes he were as effective as the show’s protagonist, Frank Underwood, who goes to murderous lengths to gain power in Washington.

“It does seem like even President Obama has a little bit of Frank Underwood envy,” Stephanopoulos said.

“I can imagine why he would!” responded Spacey.

“I’ve heard from lots of people,” Spacey continued. “Some people feel that 99 percent of the show is accurate, and the 1 percent that isn’t is that you could never get an education bill passed that fast.”

This Week also showed a clip from a video put together by NowThis News of real members of Congress reading lines from the show. It’s great and you should watch the whole thing
