Governor Sanford has new followers. Several days ago, county leaders in Warren County, Ohio have voted unanimously to reject $373,000 in “stimulus” funds for which their county qualifies.
“This is bad, filthy money, folks,” Commissioner Mike Kilburn said March 17, when the commissioners voted unanimously not to accept transit dollars. “This is money we don’t have.”
Like Sanford, Kilburn wanted to be allowed to use the county’s portion of the funding to reduce the national debt.

Here is an interesting consequence of Warren County commissioners’ brave stand:
This afternoon, in an act of entrepreneurial insurgency, two House Republicans – Reps. Mike Turner (R-OH) and Jean Schmidt (R-OH), who represent Warren County in Congress, will announce their intent to introduce legislation that (if enacted, of course) would require the funds rejected by Warren County to be returned to the federal Treasury and used to pay down the national debt.
