The Corner

House Latest

From an insider:

–Neither Blunt nor Boehner has it locked up. Still lots of undecideds, nervous that both are too closely associated with the status quo.

–Eric Cantor looks strong, and may well have it wrapped up for whip.

–Blunt is showing a tactical inflexibility in not releasing a more extensive list of names of supporters–it would help build momentum.

–No chance of Hastert being challenged for speaker, as has been floated on MSNBC.

–Bill Thomas is not a serious possibility. He is too unpopular within the conference.

–Shadegg has a shot if neither Blunt nor Boehner establishes dominance and if they hurt each other badly in coming weeks, providing an opening for a third candidate.
