House Majority Leader: All We Want is Hillary’s Benghazi E-Mails, Nothing Else

Due to the potential “sensitivity” to Hillary Clinton’s various e-mails, House majority leader Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) explained that Republicans’ request is specifically focused on just those pertaining to the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, and nothing else.

“We’re not interested in her private e-mails,” he said on Face the Nation. “We’re not even interested in her e-mails regarding Russia and ‘the reset,’ or Syria and Assad and the chemical weapons — only those pertaining to Benghazi.”

Earlier this week, the Select Committee on Benghazi formally asked Clinton to turn over her private server to a third-party examiner. While she is not legally required to comply with this specific request, the committee may exercise its legal authority to force Clinton to turn over the server if she refuses.

McCarthy repeatedly emphasized that Clinton has a responsibility to the American people to hand over the e-mails, and that she “has the ability to clean this up” by releasing the e-mails.

“We don’t want any of the other e-mails — we don’t want to go through them,” he said. “Just give us the e-mails pertaining to Benghazi.”
