House Passes Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act

As Ari Blaff reports, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 219 to 203 on Thursday to pass the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. The very short bill says that “for purposes of determining compliance with title IX . . . in athletics, sex shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.” All 219 votes in favor were cast by Republicans, while all 203 votes against were cast by Democrats. Three House Republicans and ten House Democrats did not vote on the bill.

Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffries said the bill was supported only by “extreme MAGA Republicans” and that the bill sought to address “an issue that doesn’t really exist in the way they are falsely portraying” it.
