How to Know Shane Osborn is in Trouble

He’s gone negative in the Nebraska senate race, and with an incredibly lame and factually incorrect ad. Here it is:

A central claim of the ad is that Ben Sasse spent nearly a decade in Washington “as a government bureaucrat.”

The Omaha World Herald reports on that claim:

Sasse spent about four years at three federal departments — Health and Human Services, Justice and Homeland Security. He also worked as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska for six months.

Osborn’s campaign cited Sasse’s part-time job as a tutor for pages in the U.S. House, a position he held for two years while attending graduate school in the mid-1990s.

Even if the tutoring job is considered a bureaucratic position, Sasse’s time in government would add up to about 6½ years.

“Six and a half years is nearly a decade as the ad states,” said Bill Novotny, Osborn’s campaign manager.

So, there you have it: tutoring pages is the work of  a “bureaucrat” and six and half years is “nearly a decade.” Osborne has to be looking at pretty tough numbers to have gone this route.
