How’s Your Governor Doing on Taxes and Spending?

The Cato Institute just released its fiscal-policy report card on America’s governors — the report is particularly interesting this year because it assesses how the governors have handled themselves since the beginning of the crisis.

Four governors got an “A” — Mark Sanford of South Carolina, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Seven were awarded an “F” — Ted Kulongoski of Oregon, David Paterson of New York, Jodi Rell of Connecticut, Pat Quinn of Illinois, Jim Doyle of Wisconsin, Bill Ritter of Colorado, and Chris Gregoire of Washington.

Governor McDonnell of Virginia and Governor Christie of New Jersey didn’t get graded because they haven’t been in office long enough.
