Huckabee: If GOP Abandons Opposition to Gay Marriage, ‘I’m Gone’

Mike Huckabee issued an ultimatum to Republicans pushing the party to give up its opposition to same-sex marriage, declaring he’ll leave the GOP if it drops the issue from its platform.

The former Arkansas governor and possible presidential candidate threw down the gauntlet during a Thursday interview on American Family Association’s radio program. “I am utterly exasperated with Republicans — and the so-called leadership of the Republicans — who have abdicated on this issue,” he said, claiming they’ll lose “every single election in the future” if they “capitulate” on same-sex marriage.

“If the Republicans want to lose guys like me, and a whole bunch of still God-fearing Bible-believing people, go ahead and just abdicate on this issue,” Huckabee continued. “Because at that point, you lose me. I’m gone. I’ll become an independent. I’ll start finding people who have guts to stand. I’m tired of this.”
