Huckabee Returns to Iowa

He’s back . . .

Mike Huckabee told Iowans tonight that he’s not pro-life because of politics.

“It would be more fair to say that I got into politics because I’m pro-life,” he said.

Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor and Baptist minister who ran for president in 2008, said he was invited to speak at the Informed Choices of Iowa fundraiser in Des Moines tonight by Iowa evangelical conservatives Brad and Carol Sherman, who he described as dear friends he met during the caucuses.

Huckabee said the 2008 Iowa caucuses were “an incredible ride” and an experience for which he’ll always be grateful. People ask him what the most wonderful thing was about Iowa and he answers: “Winning,” he said.

The Des Moines Register has more on Huck’s speech, and some tidbits on the crowd, including the appearance of Iowa governor Terry Branstad.

Robert Costa was formerly the Washington editor for National Review.
