Huckabee’s Limits

Sorry for my unplanned hiatus from the Corner. (You did notice I was gone, right?)

Anyway, two points about Huckabee (and forgive me if I’m repeating things that others have said here already). First: Those of us who have argued that Huckabee’s campaign, as it stands, will have very limited appeal for non-evangelicals got a little confirmation from the New Hampshire exit polls. Twenty-three percent of people who voted in the Republican primary there said they were evangelical or born-again Christians. Among the 77 percent who weren’t, Huckabee got only 6 percent. Among those voters, Huckabee placed fifth, behind even Ron Paul.

Second: My Huckabee-supporting friends keep complaining about East Coast neoconservative elites who are against Huckabee. I think we should institute a rule: Any generalization about East Coast neoconservative elites that has to make exceptions for David Brooks and William Kristol is invalid.
