HUH?

From Democratic Rep. Martin Meehan on today’s “Fox News Sunday,” answering a question about the House’s handling of the 1983 sex scandal involving Rep. Gerry Studds:

Well, first of all, there was Republican Congressman Crane and Congressman Studds who were involved in activities. Frankly, when the activities took place in the Studds case, I was a sophomore in high school.

From Wikipedia’s biography of Meehan:

Martin Thomas Meehan (born December 30, 1956) is an American attorney and politician from the state of Massachusetts….He attended public schools in Lowell, graduating from Lowell High School in 1974. Meehan went on to the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education/political science. Later Meehan attended Suffolk University, graduating with a Master of Public Administration degree in 1981, and Suffolk University Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctor law degree in 1986.

It certainly doesn’t seem that Meehan was a sophomore in high school in 1983.  But as it turns out, Studds actually had sex with the young page in 1973.  So even though the House dealt with the Studds issue in 1983 — and that was what the question on Fox was about — Meehan, who had a Masters degree and was in law school in 1983, apparently tried to leave the impression that he was too young to know much about it.
