I Have Seen the Future and It Is the Pitch Clock

I went to see a Portland Sea Dogs game up in Maine a couple of weeks ago and had a grand time. It’s an old-school little park nestled into downtown, the way ballparks should be, and the team seems to have a devoted following (the fact that it is a Red Sox affiliate could be overlooked, at least for one night). Also, it was a nicely paced game. The Eastern League has a pitch clock, and I can guarantee you that no one missed the habitual stepping off the mound and out of the batter’s box of the big leagues, or the completely ridiculous adjusting of batting gloves after every swing. Hopefully, starting next season, MLB will have a clock, too, and the era of pointless delays will be on the way out.
