The IAEA Iran Report: Definitely Bad News

Security news relating to Iran just keeps getting worse, doesn’t it? Not that any other news out of Tehran is any better, considering the ongoing political crackdown.

But just yesterday, adding to the worrisome advancements of Iran’s early-February ballistic missile launch, the usually ever-so-gentle IAEA has now said that they have more evidence Iran is working on a nuclear warhead — which pretty much flies in the face Tehran’s claim of a peaceful nuclear program.

(The IAEA had expressed concerns about a warhead project at least as far back as far as 2008, despite a 2007 U.S. intelligence assessment that the program was halted.)

Making matters worse, the Russians are threatening to pull out of the recently formed U.S.-Russia “Son of START” agreement if they feel threatened by any U.S. missile-defense system focused on Iran — or elsewhere.

Meaning? Obama is likely going to have to decide between resetting relations with Russia (and his dream of a nuke-free world) and a missile-defense system in Europe to defend us against a nuclear Iran.

Unfortunately, all we seem to get out of the administration is more empty rhetoric and hollow threats — which the Iranian regime cheerily scoffs at.

Isn’t it time for the Obama administration to discard its “What, Me Worry?” Iran engagement policy? U.S. policy is failing while the Iranian nuclear nightmare draws ever nearer.
