The Ides of March Are Come

Two thousand and fifty-four years ago today, assassins killed Julius Caesar, on the Ides of March.

He was famously warned of his end beforehand. He ignored a prophecy, even scoffed at it. According to Plutarch, when Caesar spotted the soothsayer, he said, “The ides of March are come.” The soothsayer replied, “But they are not gone.”
