Peter: Iām not the guy who has read a dozen Eisenhower books and can authoratively name the best, but I can say this ā the two-volume biography by Stephen Ambrose is pretty good. He also distilled it into a one-volume treatment. Or if you just want a book on Ike the president, then stick to volume 2. Also, the book that is often regarded as beginning to shift the conventional wisdom on Eisenhower ā from detached golfer to clever string-puller ā is The Hidden-Hand Presidency, by Fred Greenstein.
