Illarianov Resigns

Andrei Illarianov has been the lone voice within the Vladimir Putin’s inner circle of advisors. His influence was diminished in 2005, but he maintained his efforts to urge liberal reforms. No longer, if this report is accurate. Upset with a steady decline of politcal freedom and government oligopolies, Illarianov is resigning. “Six years ago when I came to this post I dedicated my work to increasing economic freedoms in Russia. Six years on, the situation has changed radically” — and not for the better.
