You have to remember that the people writing to you in favor of the London commuter programme are British (you can tell by their vocabulary and context) and they have been socialized for years. They may be Tories, but they have forgotten that a truly free market has as little government intervention as possible.
When one argues that the government is applying market principles, one is already refuting one’s point. Government, no matter how well-intentioned, is inherently anti-free market.
