A large group of immigration-reform activists stormed House Republican majority leader Eric Cantor’s Arlington, Va., condominium complex yesterday evening.
Around 60 activists crowded into the building’s lobby until police arrived, at which point they moved to the street. The protestors used bullhorns despite police orders to the contrary, but there were no injuries or arrests. The protestors chanted, “What do we want? Racial justice! When do we want it? Now!”
It isn’t clear if Cantor was home during the protest, which was conducted by a group named Casa In Action. The group said its objective was to slip fliers under residents’ doors accusing Cantor of opposing granting “citizenship to millions of undocumented Virginians.”
One of the group’s leaders, a man named Renato Mendoza, said the group was considering conducting similar protests for Republican congressmen Frank Wolf and Bob Goodlatte; the latter is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over immigration.
