I’m with Ramesh on road privatization. What we did in Indiana by leasing the Toll Road should become the national model. We should also go to toll roads wherever possible — the best government is the kind you pay for by the use.

If you want to ease congestion, starty by abolishing HOV lanes — they only plug up traffic — and stop policing the highways so aggressively at rush hour. Before the debate, when I was stuck in traffic on my way to Boca, the HOV lane was empty and useless. There was also some extreme rubbernecking at one point where the cops had pulled over something like 15 cars (perhaps HOV violators?).

But of course, if I’d wanted to get there faster, I could have driven the Florida Turnpike instead and shelled out a few bucks.
