Iran: ‘Meeting the Challenge’

Over the last year, the Bipartisan Policy Center’s report “Meeting the Challenge” seems to be a play-by-play of U.S. strategy toward Iran and Iranian actions, including the Iranian threat to Iraqi oil wells in southern Iraq.  Ironically, a Defense Intelligence Agency analyst just last week dismissed the potential for Iranian action on Iraqi oil wells.

The difference between the BPC’s report and so many others out there is that the BPC focused on analysis rather than advocacy. At every point, Senators Coats and Robb and Gen. Chuck Wald insisted when discussing tactics — whether engagement, sanctions, or military action — that the bipartisan group answer the question: “What do we do if that doesn’t work?”

It makes for good reading now. You can do keyword search on the report at Iran Tracker.
