A senior Iranian military leader credits his country’s “power and resistance” for President Barack Obama and the United States’ desire to offer concessions to the country.
Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the senior military aide to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, said yesterday that the United States has “sensibly chosen a type of flexibility and withdrawal vis a vis” his country because it believes it “can’t challenge the powerful Iran.”
“It seems that the Americans have understood this fact that Iran is a powerful and stable country in the region which uses logical and wise methods in confrontation with its enemies,” he said, according to the state-run Fars News Agency.
Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, a party leader in the Iranian parliament and former presidential candidate, said that President Obama’s speech before the United Nations General Assembly “had a different tone” thanks to “the resistance shown by the Iranian government and nation.”
