IRS Leaker Finally Charged

In a typical Friday news dump, the Department of Justice announced that it had charged IRS consultant Charles Littlejohn with leaking the tax returns of an elected official and those of thousands of other private citizens to two different news organizations.

We can safely presume this is the leak to the New York Times and ProPublica of Donald Trump’s tax returns and those of many conservative donors.

I await to hear more details, but the DOJ says that it is giving Littlejohn just one criminal count for this. Just one?

This was a hugely significant breach, and it blows a giant hole in the IRS’s reputation for discretion with our financial details. I’m glad that we’ve found someone to throw the book at. I just wish it was a heavier book.
