Irvin the Greek?

Have you heard about the Michael Irvin controversy? The receiver-turned-TV-analyst recently made a dumb remark about the supposed racial ancestry of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. This columnist is calling for Irvin’s head. There have been some allegations of ESPN’s refusing to make as much of the incident as it should because it took place on ESPN radio and Irvin is an ESPN commentator; there are also allegations that if Irvin were white, he’d be out of a job. The latter claim is probably true. But this feels like one of those cases where we’d be better served by less racial sensitivity. Irvin has apologized, that should be that.
