Yes. Yes, X is down for many users; this morning more than 58,000 users have reported trouble accessing the social media app according to DownDetector, a site that tracks disruption to web services. Earlier this morning, users reported problems with Cloudflare* and Amazon Web Services as well**.
According to DownDetector, X had the fifth-highest report of outages of major web services in 2025, ranking behind Amazon Web Services (including a particularly widespread outage in October), PlayStation, Cloudflare*, and YouTube. When you’re a widely used app, sooner or later some part of your system is going to fail and produce an outage.
And yet, X, formerly Twitter, still has an estimated 611 million monthly active users. The dire predictions that the app would collapse under Elon Musk have not come to pass.
*UPDATE: Hannah Burkey from Cloudflare’s PR department writes in, “Cloudflare services are operating normally, and the issues X is currently seeing are not related to Cloudflare. Cloudflare is actively supporting the X team for any help they need from us in restoration.”
**ANOTHER UPDATE: Ryan Walsh, with Amazon Web Services’ corporate communications, also writes in to say that their systems are working fine with no recent issues and “the only reliable source on AWS service status is the AWS Health Dashboard.”
