Italy: The Exit Polls Seem to Have Been Wrong

Imagine that! Berlusconi and his allies (including the surprisingly long lived northern League) seem headed for a landslide win, in which the old Left is on the verge of electoral extinction. Everything could still change, of course–they’ve only been counting ballots for about four hours, if we give them another 4-5 hours it will be clearer–but at the moment the projections are for the Center Right to win by at least six points in the Chamber of Deputies and as much as 9 points in the Senate, which had generally been projected as a tossup (but corresponds to Berlusconi’s private polling).
