Jack Kevorkian’s Euthanasia Clinics Proposed for Canada

In 1992, Jack Kevorkian seriously proposed in the American Journal of Forensic Psychiatry that a pilot program of death clinics be established in Michigan.

The clinics, which he called “obitoria,” would be staffed by physician-killers known as “obitiatrists,” who would be permitted legally to terminate patients who request it

With the Supreme Court of Canada ordering Parliament to legalize a radical regimen of euthanasia throughout the country–and with the nation’s medical associations almost unanimously creating ethical rules that will require all Canadian doctors to either kill euthanasia-qualified patients or procure a death doctor–some MDs are so desperate to get off the hook they are turning to Kevorkian’s dark idea to keep some semblance of Hippocratic medicine in the country. From the Langley Advance story:

Among the speakers was Dr. Margaret Cottle, a palliative care physician and expert on the subject…Cottle recommended that physician assisted dying take place in a separate facility specifically designed for this purpose alone.

This would include information, counselling, and referral, with people who are “very well trained to do this [procedure].” “There could easily be a separate facility.

It’s not like the person is going to be there for very long, we’re not going to be worried about blocking beds or anything like that, but what it does, is it removes this from everyday medical services,” Cottle elaborated.

This is ridiculous. Canadian doctors should tell the Supreme Court justices:“If you are so intent on seeing sick and disabled patients killed, to do it yourselves!”

Instead, we see Jack Kevorkian’s idea proposed seriously as a desperation measure by a euthanasia opponent to keep doctors from being forced into euthanasia complicity.

Pathetic. Who knew that Canadians are such sheep?
