Jay-Z Sounds Conservative but Supports Obama

Jay-Z, one of President Obama’s most famous celebrity supporters, made several fairly conservative comments in an interview yesterday:

I don’t even like the word politics. It implies something underhanded and I think we need less government. To be honest with you I think a lot of people are serving their own agendas, so they just argue back and forth and they think about their next term. And it’s more about themselves than about the people. They’re servicing the people, but we rarely get anything done because they’re going back and forth with whatever they’re doing, so I’m not really into politics.

This isn’t the first time Jay-Z has espoused conservative views. Earlier this month, he came out against Occupy Wall Street and the demonizing of wealth in America:

What’s the thing on the wall, what are you fighting for? I think all those things need to really declare themselves a bit more clearly because when you just say that ‘the 1 percent is that,’ that’s not true. Yeah, the 1 percent that’s robbing people, and deceiving people, these fixed mortgages and all these things, and then taking their home away from them, that’s criminal, that’s bad. Not being an entrepreneur. This is free enterprise. This is what America is built on.

Still, Jay-Z is adamant in his support for President Obama: “I support Barack because I gotta respect that sort of vision. I gotta respect a man who is the first black president ever. To have that sort of vision and dream, I have to support that.” When Jay-Z wants to vote for the cause that is actually in line with his views, we’ll be ready to welcome him with open arms.
